U-Boats in our Backyard: The Story of the Empire Mica Wreck with Grayson Shepherd
January 27, 2026 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST

At 1 a.m. on the evening of June 29, 1942, the horizon south of Cape San Blas lit up with an orange glow after the British Tanker Empire Mica was struck by torpedoes from the German U-Boat U-67. Out of a crew of 47 British merchant mariners, only 14 survived. Now a popular fishing and diving site just 30 miles from Indian Pass, it is also the gravesite for 33 British sailors who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
This program is a part of our Tuesdays @ 2 Educational Presentation series.
