Please Note:
E-mail, a preferred form of communication for transmitting information by many government
agencies, is subject to Florida’s public records law. A new law took
effect on July 1, 2006, requiring counties, districts, municipal officers,
departments, divisions, and other units of state and local government to
post a notice on their Web sites regarding electronic mail. This law amends
the section of Chapter 668, Florida Statutes that deals with
electronic mail communications. Governmental entities are now required to
post the following notice on their Web sites: “Under Florida law, e-mail
addresses are public records. If you do not want your e-mail address
released in response to a public records request, do not send electronic
mail to this entity. Instead, contact this office by phone or in writing.”
